Black women aren’t always shown in the best light, so we at Carvd N Stone (CNS) decided to give Black women the spotlight they deserve. Starting on June 4, 2022, CNS released the first episode of our new video summer series, “CNS IG Live w/ Positive Black Women” (CNS PBW) that featured 13 Black women from around the world.
Every Thursday of Summer 2022, CNS interviewed a Black woman doing positive things in life and within her career. Each interview was held on Instagram live starting at 6 p.m CST.
“There are so many podcasts and media outlets out there that are ran by men’s voices and I wanted to provide a different perspective. Black women are hardly given the chance to talk about themselves and accomplishments in a non-gossiping way,” said CNS Founder Nyesha Stone. “This series was all about positivity and just letting Black women be Black women.”
CNS PBW featured a variety of Black women to give the world a broad view of who Black women really are. Our guests lived in different parts of the country and world including Milwaukee, Atlanta and Nigeria.
Not only were our guests versatile in where they lived but in also what they do as careers. Our CNS PBW guests worked in nonprofits, for the government, they are entrepreneurs, family women, and everything in between.
Crystal Ikanih-Musa was a CNS PBW guest and she discussed what it means to be an international lawyer living in Nigeria while also raising a family.
“I have a supportive husband. I travel a lot for work and it really takes teamwork to help with raising the kids and having that support really helps me, so that I don’t have the mommy guilt that I have sometimes. My children motivate me,” said Ikanih-Musa. “My first child is my daughter and I just want to raise her to be bold. I want to raise her to be strong, so she motivates me to make sure that I am doing the same for other people. And everything I’m doing is to build a better world for them.”
Every women gave encouraging advice while sharing their story with the CNS audience; hundreds of people tuned in throughout the summer series.
One of our most popular episodes featured Daphne Reid who played Aunt Vivian on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. She discussed how she got her role and what she’s doing currently, along with some life advice.
“I don’t believe in stress it can kill you. No. Worry should not be in your vocabulary. If something is a problem, worrying about it does nothing. Either do something about it or let it alone and someone else will do something about it,” said Reid. “Worrying about it does nothing, so lose that word.”
CNS PBW is expected to start up again late Fall 2022 or Spring 2023.
