The topic of healthcare has always been a tricky one. Healthcare is a right everyone should have at an affordable price, but we all know that isn’t the case. Through healthcare, people are able to pay for multiple services like doctor visits, mental health services, medications, and more.

Individuals can apply for the 2022 Marketplace, referred to as Obama Care, until January 15, 2022. During this period – which started in November 2021 – people have the option to shop around for health insurance plans. You can also change and update your plan. The Marketplace was created as a part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, passed by Congress in 2010.

When applying to certain plans make sure to pay attention to what your coverage actually covers. Some plans have a copayment for primary care visits before you meet your deductible while others offer discounts on medication.

With the passing of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, more people qualify for help paying for health coverage, even those who weren’t eligible before, and most people currently enrolled in a Marketplace plan may qualify for more tax credits.

Healthy MKE: a coalition of local government, non-profit, health care, public health, and community organizations promoting a healthier Milwaukee, has a quick and easy way to see if you qualify for a low or no-cost healthcare plan through their site. No matter what a person earns, financial help is available to pay for health insurance.

Individuals can also receive free preventive care, like vaccines, screenings, and some check-ups, even before the deductible is met.

Milwaukee residents can call 414-270-4677 and Wisconsin residents can call for 2-1-1 for additional information and help. For those not in the city or state, click here.
