Ranay Shakara is taking the music world by storm with her anticipated R&B project, “The Love EP”.

Releasing later this summer, The Love EP  is a love story about meeting a significant person, feeling loved, losing yourself, and coming out of a dark situation. The singer said that this EP is the beginning of a new era of her life.

“The EP makes you think about how you allowed yourself to get to this point,” Shakara said. “Then it ends with acceptance of what happened and moving on to eventually find yourself so that you may love someone else.”

Shakara admitted that it is a struggle to show her romantic side in her life, yet she’s always been comfortable with expressing her love through music.

“That is the theme of my EP. Love — the good, the bad, the heartbreaks, first-time love, all of it,” she said. ”Because of this, I chose to name it “The Love EP.”

The project is a long time coming for the artist. Shakara put the project off for years because of school and her insecurities. However, she believed in investing in herself and wanted to focus on her vision.

“I’ve always wanted to do it but constantly made excuses on why I couldn’t,” Shakara said. “But, God said no more putting it off.”

Her single, “Butterflies,” which released last month, set the tone for the upcoming EP. The song is the artist's favorite from the project. Shakara said that the song tells the story of a woman coming to terms that she is still in love with someone from her past.

“The reason it’s my favorite is that it reminds me of that authentic R&B sound but also has a jazz feel,” Shakara said. “Most songs nowadays only have a first verse and chorus. I purposely added two full verses, harmonies coming in the second chorus to build the song and a bridge. I feel like with this song, in particular, I’m able to show off my vocal ability fully.”

She added that the song brings out a very vulnerable side of herself. Each piece of the latest project is based on actual events.

“The fact that I was able to take something that I had to admit to myself and turn into something as beautiful as butterflies truly reminded me of why I sing and why I love music so much,” she said. “It also reminds us that beautiful things can come out of not-so-pleasant situations.”

The indie artist will release a music video for the EP and release a full album later this year.
