The Greater Milwaukee Foundation is Committed to Building a Milwaukee for All

In 1915, The Greater Milwaukee Foundation (GMF) received its first donation, a $1,000 check. Since then, GMF has received numerous donations which they’ve distributed around Milwaukee totaling in over millions of dollars. In 2022, its impact is still going.

After dealing with the pandemic and an uprising for racial justice, GMF is focusing on not how to rebuild Milwaukee, but on how do they build a better Milwaukee.

GMF envisions a community of thriving neighborhoods that welcomes, includes, and develops the potential of all people. GMF sees itself as a region that serves as a beacon for the nation and a Milwaukee for all.

The driving purpose behind GMF’s new strategic plan for 2020-25 is to overcome racial divisions to build a Milwaukee for all. The plan came from years of listening to the community and now GMF is asking the community to join them in the generational undertaking.

According to GMF’s Winter 2022 Action Report on Racial Equity, in 2021, Gateway Capital Partners – a Black and woman-owned venture capital firm in Milwaukee – received a $1 million impact investment commitment from GMF to advance equitable economic opportunity for historically underestimated entrepreneurs.

GMF prides itself on being committed to building a Milwaukee for all. This work is guided by their GMF’s North Star of racial equity and inclusion.
