(Spanish Video) Algo Dulce Brings Something Sweet to Milwaukee’s Food Scene

On a weekend filled with steaming heat waves like this, nothing is quite refreshing as a paleta (popsicle) from Dominique Alvarado’s Algo Dulce (literal translation—something sweet).

Alvarado describes Algo Dulce—her culinary business—as environmentally and socially conscious food. It is also a tribute to her complex Chicana identity which is a combination of her Mexican and American heritage.

Her business specializes in handcrafted Vegan Mexican treats such as paletas, aguas frescas (fresh, fruit-flavored water) and vasos de fruta (cups of fruit topped with a Mexican chili sauce and seasoning).

Algo Dulce has quickly become a South Side favorite since its birth in 2018. Alvarado has grown a presence at local summer markets and through catering events. She is also in the process of bottling her sauces, spices and her cashew vegan horchata - which sold out at this month’s Newaukee’s Night Market.
