Stay Up To Date With Milwaukee's Latest Events at Milwaukee InfoHub

For as long as she can remember, Marina Murphy has considered herself a connector. A connector of resources, of people, or whatever people may ask her. Recently, Murphy was asked if she knew of any places to get tires after hours. Although Murphy may not know all the answers, she’s willing to look for them.

While at Marquette University, Murphy heard over and over that there wasn’t much to do in Milwaukee, especially for Black people. Murphy knew that this wasn’t true but needed a way to show that.

“Milwaukee is what you make it,” she said. “Milwaukee can be really fun. [It’s about] what you expose yourself to and what risk you take. Sometimes you have to go to an event by yourself.”

A little over a year ago, Murphy created Milwaukee InfoHub (MIH): a social media resource that brings awareness to a variety of events, businesses and artists in the Milwaukee area, with an emphasis on Black stuff. She’s an advocate for Black people, specifically Black mental health and the youth.

As of right now, MIH promotes job postings, brands, music, events and businesses. Murphy said she’s working on narrowing down what exactly MIH shares.

According to Murphy, her network is so big that MIH was able to sell itself to the people.

“I hope to be a connector…I’m looking forward to partnerships [and] growing,” Murphy said.

MIH is a platform for the events you can’t find with a quick Google search.

All post are shared for free, which is why Murphy has been working on her business model. MIH is not a full business yet, but she’s learning as she goes.

“I’ve learned a lot about creating a system for myself,” she said, such as how she takes referrals for events.

Even with providing a free service, Murphy highly focuses on customer service and making sure each experience with her business is a good one.

The idea for MIH was around way longer than it’s been established and that’s because Murphy wasn’t for sure if she should go forward with it.

“Take a chance on yourself because someone is looking for something you have,” Murphy said.

Eventually, Murphy wants to sponsor other people’s events and hire on a team.
