The Single "Big Poppin" Now has a Video
Originally, Peez envisioned his song “Big Poppin” as a “good life” type of record for the big changes in his life. But, after receiving the artwork back from local photographer Justin Gordon, owner of Justin Gordon Photography, Peez’s vision for the song changed entirely. When he saw the art, he immediately thought “I’m a boss” and from that point, a movie-like music video was in the making.
“Big Poppin is how I see myself. That’s just how I was raised. It’s not cocky, it’s confidence,” Peez said. “You should feel like you’re great in everything you do.”
Peez reached out to local videographer Roger Gonzales, owner of Gonzales Visuals, to start planning out the video. According to Peez, the video was shot in two days with an entire month of promotion leading up to the release date on Feb. 9, 2020.
Releasing the music video on a Sunday was very intentional. Peez said he typically drops his music and content on Sunday or Monday because that’s when people aren’t too busy. It was actually a conversation that Peez had with his friend and local rapper C’zo that made him start thinking in this way. It was a Sunday evening when Peez got a call from C’zo asking Peez when he was going to release the video to his single “Till I.” Peez said he didn’t know, so C’zo then asked Peez what he was doing. Peez answered nothing, so C’zo said this:
“Imagine how many people aren’t doing nothing on a Sunday.” And, that ignited the spark in Peez to release his content on two specific days.
The music video for Big Poppin portrays Peez as exactly what the song says, a boss. The five-and-half minutes music video is the scene of a classic gangster movie, equipped with cigars, exchanges of goods and a loyal crew that has the main character’s back.
This video is the start of a new wave for Peez because he’s no longer aiming for “quick” visuals. Instead, he wants every shot to be cinematic.
Directing his own videos is just one step in the direction Peez is heading. According to Peez, he will play a role in every aspect of his career.
“I’m not afraid to ask for help. If I feel I can do something then I’m going to do it,” he said.
Although he loves collaborating and bouncing ideas with others, he likes to have the biggest role when it comes to his brand. Peez is also newly under the management of James Davis.
Starting this year, Peez will increase his engagement on social media, which he’s already started through promoting Big Poppin.
Big Poppin can be downloaded on all streaming platforms.
